Slots for 2018 Ronda Pilipinas race up for grabs in Cebu qualifiers

One hundred seventy cyclists are gunning for the 30 slots remaining in the LBC Ronda Pilipinas 2018 when they compete in the final qualifying race in Danao city, Cebu, on Saturday.

The top 38 riders of the 1-day race, which will stake P30,000 to the champion, P20,000 to the runner-up and P10,000 for the third placer, will join 20 seeded riders and 38 others who made it through the first qualifiers held in Tarlac city last month.

Riders for next year's race will battle for the P1-million top purse and the honor of being called LBC Ronda Pilipinas champion in the 11-stage event scheduled in March.

The reigning champion, Navy-Standard Insurance’s Jan Paul Morales, is competing over the weekend as part of his preparation for his title defense.

Santy Barnachea will also be in Cebu, as the 41-year-old 2-time Ronda Pilipinas winner eyes an unprecedented third crown.
