Santiago turns down offer to play for Thailand club

National University star Jaja Santiago courteously declined the lucrative offer by the Bangkok Glass club to play in the Thailand Volleyball League, citing her desire to finish her studies first and honor her commitments.

The versatile 6-foot-5 hitter was eyed by the powerhouse club to join as an import for the coming season, which will run from October's end to May next year.

But the schedule collides directly with Santiago’s stint with the Foton Tornadoes in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix, then the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament, which begins February.

The team offered Santiago a 6-month contract worth $4,000 per month and an apartment for the duration of her stint.

Foton team manager Diane Santiago forwarded her sister’s decision via an official statement.
