NU to use PVL title run to jumpstart UAAP bid

MANILA, Philippines – National University (NU) looks to ride the momentum of its record sweep of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Collegiate Conference as it tries to end a six-decade championship drought in the UAAP.

Coach Babes Castillo plans to add a couple more players to his already formidable squad, making the Lady Bulldogs one of the early favorites in the UAAP Season 80 women's volleyball tournament.

"There will be additional players who will join the team for the UAAP," said Castillo, who steered the Lady Bulldogs to a nine-game sweep of the conference, including a two-game sweep of Far Eastern University (FEI) in the best-of-three PVL Finals late Saturday.

NU has won the UAAP women's volleyball crown twice, but the last was back in the 1956-57 season.

Given the team's form and strength, not to mention their confidence, the Lady Bulldogs will surely be one of the teams to beat in Season 80, along with defending back-to-back champion De La Salle University. Adamson University also looms as a team to watch, along with University of the Philippines and University of Santo Tomas.
