Montalbo vows La Salle will bounce back

MANILA, Philippines – De La Salle University captain Kib Montalbo promised that the Green Archers will recover quickly after suffering their second loss of the UAAP Season 80 men's basketball tournament.

Up against archrival Ateneo de Manila University, La Salle rallied from a 14-point deficit to take a 75-74 lead with just 9.1 seconds left to play. The Green Archers needed just a good inbound pass to seal the victory, but they could not manage that.

Montalbo's inbound pass was well-read and tipped by Ateneo's Matt Nieto, and the La Salle captain compounded his late-game errors by fouling Nieto with 3.9 seconds left. The Ateneo guard coolly made both free throws, and the Blue Eagles played perfect defense in the final possession to come away with a 76-75 win.

Montalbo refused to comment on the botched inbound pass that spelled La Salle's doom, but vowed that they will recover from the defeat.

"We're going to bounce back," he promised. "We felt that we could have won that game. We'll bounce back."
