Lady Tams force semis Game 3

Far Eastern University lived to fight another day.

The Lady Tamaraws forced a best-of-three semifinals series decider after outlasting the erstwhile undefeated Adamson University Lady Falcons, 21-25, 27-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-11, Saturday in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

FEU tied the series at 1-1 and snapped the Lady Falcons’ six-game winning streak. Adamson took the series opener also in five sets.

Game 3 is on Monday.

Czarina Carandang had a breakout game with 20 points anchored on 15 attacks, three kill blocks and a pair of service aces for the Lady Tamaraws. Toni Rose Basas finished with 16 markers from 14 kills and two kill blocks while Jeanette Villareal chipped in 10 points for the Morayta-based squad, which survived a tough match without UAAP beach volleyball bets Bernadeth Pons and Kyla Atienza.

FEU went down, 2-4, early in the fifth set before sparking a scorching rally to take an 8-6 lead. The Lady Falcons, who were without UAAP beach volleyball players Bernadette Flora and Chrislyn Uy, mounted a comeback to tie the frame at 9 capped by an off the block kill by senior high Chiara Permentilla before FEU blasted a closing 6-2 spurt sealed by Basas' dropball at the middle.
