Kiefer lauds 'machine-like' Ateneo Blue Eagles

MANILA, Philippines – Former Ateneo de Manila University superstar Kiefer Ravena was truly impressed with what he saw from the Blue Eagles after watching them go up against the De La Salle University Green Archers in the UAAP Season 80 men's basketball tournament on Sunday.

Ravena, a two-time UAAP Most Valuable Player, was among the over 14,000 fans at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday who saw a remarkable game between Ateneo and La Salle.

With the No. 1 spot at the end of the first round on the line, the Blue Eagles and the Green Archers went down the wire, but it was Ateneo that came out on top, 76-75, thanks to a couple of clutch plays from point guard Matt Nieto.

"They're a machine," Ravena said of Ateneo. "Machine-like. They're very nice to watch."

He was especially impressed by Nieto, who was only a rookie in Ravena's final season in the UAAP. Nieto made the win possible for Ateneo by coming up with a steal with 9.1 seconds left, then knocking down the marginal free throws.
