Despite injury, UP's Manzo still wanted to play vs. NU

MANILA, Philippines – Despite being in so much pain that he was reduced to tears at the bench, University of the Philippines (UP) point guard Jun Manzo still wanted to return in the fourth quarter of their UAAP Season 80 game against National University.

Manzo suffered an injury in his right ankle after NU center Issa Gaye accidentally landed on it at the 7:55 mark of the third quarter. The UP guard lay prone along the baseline for long moments, writhing in pain, before being helped to the bench.

There, he was seen in tears while UP's physical therapist removed the shoe on his right foot. His longtime friend and teammate, Paul Desiderio, checked on him before returning to the game. It was clear that Manzo was all but done for the contest as his foot was wrapped and iced.

"Umiyak ako," admitted Manzo, who has proven to be a revelation for the Fighting Maroons in their Season 80 campaign. "Sobrang sakit eh. Parang walang lakas 'yung right leg ko."

"Pag lay-up ko, paghulog hindi ko pa naramdaman," he explained. "Pagbagsak ko, doon ko naramdaman na wala ng lakas 'yung right leg ko."
