Cone snubs Black postgame after Meralco calls timeout with game decided

Even the drama of the PBA Governors' Cup finals between Barangay Ginebra and Meralco that used to involve only the players appears to have spilled over to the coaches.

With a 13-point lead and just 38.1 seconds remaining, Meralco was headed to a sure win. Yet head coach Norman Black still called timeout, a move that upset Tim Cone.

When the final buzzer sounded, Cone, feeling disrespected, refused to shake hands with Black even exchanging words with him.

“Everybody knows Tim is the all-time leader in championships in the PBA. I've never in my life told him how to coach his team, so he can't tell me how to coach mine,” Black said following Meralco's 94-81 win in Game 3.

During the controversial timeout, Cone merely stood in front of the scorers' table and stared in the direction of the Meralco bench, his back turned against the Ginebra side the entire time.
