UP overpowers CSB to fan women's volleyball semis bid

MANILA, Philippines – University of the Philippines (UP) secured a second consecutive straight-sets victory, crushing De La Salle-College of St. Benilde (CSB), 25-19, 25-13, 25-19, to bolster its semifinals bid in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Collegiate Conference on Monday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Save for their shaky wind-ups in the first and third sets, it was a UP show as the Diliman-based squad ripped the Blazers' defense with 39 spikes, and produced eight blocks and seven aces to complete the 67-minute romp.

Diana Carlos had 14 points, 12 of which came on kills, while Marian Buitre added 10 points. Isa Molde and Justine Dorog scored eight points for the Lady Maroons, who survived the Lady Blazers' fierce comeback from 8-19 down in the third to come to within two, 19-21.

"Everyone played well. Gumana ang mga plays namin, kaya medyo lumamang kami sa CSB," said Carlos. "Ginawa namin ang mga plays na pina-practice namin sa training. Nalabas namin sa game."
