Time to shine has arrived for Japan-based Pinoy boxer eyeing world title

Filipino featherweight boxer Genesis Servania will get the biggest break of his career when he challenges fellow undefeated fighter Oscar Valdez for the world championship in Tucson, Arizona on Friday (Saturday, Manila time).

It will be Servania’s first time to fight in the US in a bout to be featured in the main event of the latest installment of "Top Rank on ESPN."

“Azukal,” who used to fight under ALA Boxing Promotions, is currently based in Japan, training at Kashimi Gym in Kanazawa city.

"It's exciting. It's my fight to win because I have trained so hard for this opportunity. It will be my hardest fight but you will soon see I came to Tucson to win and become the new world champion," Servania (29-0), of Bacolod city, said in report posted on PhilBoxing.com.

The 26-year-old is expected to face a tough battle against hard-hitting Valdez (22-0), a Mexican former Olympian being groomed as one of Top Rank’s future stars.
