NU earns share of PVL lead with rout of Lyceum

MANILA, Philippines – With Jaja Santiago suiting up at the last minute, National University (NU) smothered Lyceum of the Philippines University, 25-17, 25-16, 25-21, to gain a share of the Group A lead in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre on Monday afternoon.

Santiago was not included in NU's roster that was submitted a few days before the Collegiate Conference opened. But the towering hitter showed up on Monday and proceeded to lead the Lady Bulldogs' romp against the overmatched Lady Pirates.

Barely a week after a stint with the national team in the Southeast Asian Games, Santiago fired 11 points to help the Lady Bulldogs join the Ateneo Lady Eagles and the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws at the top of Group A.

Bannered by the mainstays of the BaliPure team that won the recent Open Conference title, the Lady Bulldogs sized up the Lady Pirates in the early goings of the first two sets, then imposed their will to post a pair of lopsided wins.

Lyceum put up a better fight in the third frame, and even got to within two points, 21-23. However, NU finished them off with a down-the-line attack, and a Lyceum hit that went wide.
