NLEX's Tiongson repays Guiao's trust with career game

MANILA, Philippines – For Juami Tiongson, his impressive performance against the GlobalPort Batang Pier on Sunday was a way of paying back the trust given to him by the coach who helped reignite his love for the game.

Tiongson caught fire in the fourth quarter of their game against GlobalPort, scoring 14 points for a total of a career-high 21 markers in NLEX's 109-99 victory. For good measure, he added four assists, two of which came in a crucial stretch in the payoff frame as well.

"Swerte," was how Tiongson described his performance. "Parang lahat ng bitaw ko, na-shoot eh."

"Medyo mataas 'yung confidence namin going into this game, kasi tinalo namin ang one of the best elite teams in San Miguel," he further explained. "At saka we play desperate basketball now, kasi we want the twice-to-beat advantage coming into the playoffs."

Tiongson's effort drew praise from Guiao, who opted to keep the guard in the game despite a couple of late errors that included getting his shot rejected by GlobalPort import Murphey Holloway. Yet Tiongson vowed to make up for the miscue, and he did – by hitting the lay-up that essentially iced the game with just 40 seconds left.
