Mbala's double-double keys crucial Cameroon win

Ben Mbala tallied a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds to spark Cameroon's crucial 81-77 victory over Rwanda in the 2017 Afro Basket on Sunday night.

While his teammates in De La Salle University were hacking out a victory over Far Eastern University in the UAAP Season 80 tournament, Mbala helped his home nation improve to 2-1 in Group C, allowing them to clinch a spot in the quarterfinals.

Mbala assisted on Felix Bogmis' go-ahead jumper with 1:22 left to push Cameroon ahead, 75-73, and the guard added another bucket in their next possession to make it a four-point game, 77-73, with just 31 seconds to play.

Cameroon will likely secure the second seed in Group C, putting them in a collision course with the top team in Group A in the quarterfinals, which may just be defending champion Nigeria.

Mbala has been impressive in the Afro Basket, averaging 18.3 points and 10 rebounds per game in the group round.
