Letran veterans step up to gift Napa a win on his birthday

MANILA, Philippines – The Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights gave head coach Jeff Napa a tremendous birthday gift on Tuesday, as they held on for an 84-73 victory against the Arellano University Chiefs to snap a three-game losing streak in the NCAA Season 93 men's basketball tournament.

Leading the way for the Knights were the veteran four-some of JP Calvo, Bong Quinto, Rey Nambatac, and Jerrick Balanza – all of whom were playing below par during their recent skid.

Against the Chiefs, all four players delivered, combining for 62 of the Knights' 84 points. More than their statistics, however, Napa was most pleased to see them step up as leaders.

"No. 1 'yung leadership ng mga veterans eh," Napa said when asked what was missing during their three-game slide. "Kasi, sila 'yung nilu-look up ng mga bago namin."

"Good thing, the leaders stepped up, and 'yung mga rookies, they followed na lang. 'Yun ang nangyari ngayon," he added.
