Letran snaps 3-game skid, drops Arellano

MANILA, Philippines – Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights fended off a last-ditch rally from Arellano University for a crucial 84-73 win in the NCAA Season 93 men's basketball tournament on Tuesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

With the victory, the Knights snapped a three-game losing streak and tied Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) in fourth place with identical 6-6 win-loss records. It was also a fitting birthday gift for coach Jeff Napa, who turned 37 on Tuesday.

The Chiefs lost in heartbreaking fashion for the second straight game to drop to 4-8.

"At least, we broke the record na, and nakabalik na kami sa winning column," said Napa. "Important win ito para sa amin, kasi dikit-dikit ang 3, 4, 5, 6. Maraming pwedeng mangyari, but at least we took care of business ngayon and we executed our game plan."

JP Calvo led the way for Letran with 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting, along with five rebounds and five assists. Bong Quinto contributed 20 points and 10 boards for the Knights, who are half a game ahead of San Sebastian College in the standings.
