Lady Chiefs, Red Spikers dispute PVL lead

MANILA, Philippines — Arellano University and San Beda bring their NCAA rivalry to another level as they face off today for the solo lead in Group B in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

The Lady Chiefs, the reigning NCAA champions, downed the St. Benilde Lady Blazers, 25-20, 25-22, 25-17, while the Red Spikers turned back the Technological Institute of the Phl Lady Engineers, 25-13, 25-18, 25-27, 25-13, to kick off their respective campaigns in the season-ending conference of the country’s premier league organized by Sports Vision.

Those wins guaranteed a slam-bang encounter at 4 p.m. with both teams eager to score another victory for the momentum needed in a short single round robin elims where the top two from each side of six squads advancing to the crossover semis.

Jovielyn Prado and Mary Ann Esguerra came away with 14 and 13 points, respectively, while Regine Arocha and Andrea Marzan combined for 15 hits for the Lady Chiefs.
