Ginebra clashes with Rain Or Shine, as playoff positioning intensifies

Barangay Ginebra looks to get back on the winning track when the defending champions take on Rain Or Shine in the PBA Governors’ Cup at Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday.

The two teams are chasing a place in the top 4 at the end of the preliminaries for a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.

Ginebra (7-2) and Rain Or Shine (5-3) battle at 5:15 p.m., after Grand Slam-seeking San Miguel (5-3) takes on winless Kia (0-9) at 3 p.m.

"After the beatdown that SMB gave us, needless to say, this is an important bounce-back game for us," Ginebra coach Tim Cone said in an article posted on the PBA website, referring to his team's 107-103 loss to the Beermen.

"Hopefully that was a wakeup call for us. We really need to re-establish our discipline towards our defense and the tempo in which we play," Cone added. "We lost that against SMB and need to recover it in time for the playoffs."

Rain Or Shine, which is fresh off a gut-check 116-111 win over ousted Phoenix, needs to come away with victories in its 3 remaining games to give it a shot at getting the quarterfinal bonus.
