'Fresh' Sharapova revels in comeback win against Babos

NEW YORK, NY, USA - Maria Sharapova was pleased with her win against Timea Babos - and says she went into the decider feeling confident in her ability to pull off an impressive comeback.

"I felt like I was the fresher player, and going into a third set, that's a good feeling to have," she said.

Maria Sharapova says that she felt strong going into her deciding set against Timea Babos - and puts that down to a rest day with good weather.
The 30-year-old also talked about her stunning first-round win against World No.2 and tournament second seed Simona Halep.

"Both of us were looking forward to that match once the draw came out," she said. "It's a match, as we said, that you usually see towards the later stages of a tournament or a Grand Slam. I think both of us played really great quality tennis. Coming down from that and ending up on the winning side and knowing that there are many matches ahead of you, you just have to settle down."

The Russian revealed that she is working hard to manage her expectations of herself in her return to Grand Slam tennis following an absence due to a violation of anti-doping rules.

"I have expectations, just because I know I have been in these stages before and I have been able to execute, so there's a certain level of 'I know I can do this. I've done it before, and I want to have that feeling again,'" she added.

"But there's also the realistic understanding of 'OK, you haven't been in this situation for a while, it's going to take a little time.' Managing expectations is part of it, and learning as you play the matches, it's something that I haven't done for a long time."
