FEU, La Salle bury the hatchet ahead of UAAP opening clash

MANILA, Philippines – Far Eastern University (FEU) and De La Salle University mutually agreed to move on from the shocking melee that occurred during a game between their basketball teams at the Kadayawan Cup in Davao last August 25.

The brawl forced referees to stop the game with 20 seconds left in the fourth quarter, with the FEU Tamaraws leading 70-57. Since then, both sides have flung accusations on social media, with several videos surfacing of the incident painting both parties in unflattering lights.

That the two squads will face each other in the opening weekend of the UAAP Season 80 men's basketball tournament only added color to the story, but both FEU coach Olsen Racela and De La Salle coach Aldin Ayo said they have already dropped the issue.

"It's very unfortunate that it happened," Ayo said during a press conference ahead of the UAAP season on Monday, in what was his first comments about the incident. "Sana, hindi nangyari."

"Pero hindi na rin namin pinag-usapan 'yun. We were focused on the UAAP," he explained. "Right after that, we went to practice, and we never talked about it, even to school administrators."
