EAC shocks JRU, fans Final 4 bid

MANILA, Philippines – Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) used a fiery wind-up to erase a late five-point deficit and stun Jose Rizal University (JRU), 88-84, to fan its Final 4 hopes in the NCAA Season 93 men's basketball tournament on Tuesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Trailing 75-80 after an and-1 by JRU's Jed Mendoza with just 2:40 left to play, the Generals proceeded to end the game on a 13-4 run to steal the victory.

It was EAC's second consecutive victory, hiking their record to 6-6 and putting them at solo fourth place. Meanwhile, the Heavy Bombers dropped to 7-5, although they still hold on to third place in the league standings.

Sidney Onwubere came up with a remarkable 28-point, eight-rebound effort, and hit the back-breaking triple with 37.4 seconds to go that gave EAC a four-point lead, 84-80. Jerome Garcia scored 16 points, and sparked their comeback with a couple of free throws with 2:20 left.

"Wala akong masabi kung 'di thankful lang talaga ako kay Lord and sa mga players ko. They are doing their very best," said EAC coach Ariel Sison.
