Duterte to personally hand out P16-M in cash bonuses to SEA Games medalists

Cash incentives for Filipino medalists in the Southeast Asian Games totaled nearly P16 million, money that President Rodrigo Duterte will personally give out to the winners next week.

With gold medals in the 200 and 400 meters, as well as a bronze in the 4 x 100-meter relay, Trenten Beram came away with the biggest purse at P615,000.

Gymnast Kaitlin de Guzman, who won gold, silver and bronze medals, will take home P510,000, while track star Eric Cray will get P465,000.

With an individual gold and a team silver in equestrian, Colin Syquia is entitled to P337,500. With two silvers, swimmer James Deiparine will receive P300,000.

According to Republic Act 10699, or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act, SEA Games gold medalists are entitled to P300,000, silver P150,000 and bronze P60,000.

For teams with 4 or less members, such as Beram and Cray’s relay squad in track, the money will be split evenly for each individual.
