Despite shooting slump, NU's Alejandro 'on a different level'

MANILA, Philippines – When discussing potential triple-double threats in the UAAP, National University (NU) veteran J-Jay Alejandro does not immediately come to mind.

After all, Alejandro is still known mostly as a scorer, a three-point shooter who is at his best when asked to space the floor for the Bulldogs. In Season 79 – his first as NU's featured player – Alejandro averaged 12.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.

Fast-forward to Season 80, his final season in the UAAP. Alejandro is struggling to score – he only makes 13.7 points per game and shoots a woeful 30.4% from the field.

But there is nary a hint of complaint from his new coach, Jamike Jarin, who is instead lauding Alejandro's renewed focus on other areas of the game.

"He's on a different level," Jarin said of Alejandro, after NU labored to an 94-84 victory over University of Santo Tomas (UST) on Wednesday. "He's just playing selfless."
