Castro's efficient night powers TNT past Meralco

The first test in what TNT coach Nash Racela considers the challenging part of his team's schedule is now out of the way.

The KaTropa passed it, but just barely.

Jayson Castro scored a local-high 27 points in helping TNT defeat Meralco 113-107 in the PBA Governors' Cup on Wednesday. PBA Media Bureau
Jayson Castro scored 27 points including the insurance free throws late, as TNT staved off Meralco's rally to win 113-107 in the PBA Governors’ Cup at Araneta Coliseum Wednesday.

TNT led by as many as 21 points, but Meralco came roaring back in the second half.

The Bolts sliced the deficit to 107-105 with 1:42 left in the game, but a basket by Glen Rice Jr. and Castro's free throws after a missed 3-point attempt by Meralco's Jared Dillinger iced the win for TNT.

After Meralco, the KaTropa will take on Star, NLEX and Barangay Ginebra in that order, teams with a combined winning percentage of 77%.
