Big serving, big occasion: Pliskova ready for home favorite Vandeweghe

NEW YORK, NY, US - World No.1 Karolina Pliskova knows that CoCo Vandeweghe will be revelling in the spotlight at her home Grand Slam when the pair clash in their US Open quarterfinal match.

"I guess she just loves the crowd and the big stage, so she's going to always play well here on center court," said the Czech.

Karolina Pliskova knows that quarterfinal opponent CoCo Vandeweghe enjoys stepping into the spotlight.
"It will be tough. I played her last time in Stuttgart, I think, so it was clay, a little bit different story. Obviously she has a big serve."

Pliskova rejected the idea that her game is similar to Vandeweghe's - apart from shot speed.

"I would not really put me and her together," she smiled, "like not even personally.

"Like with the game...we both have the plan to play aggressive, but I think she's a little bit -- not messy sometimes, but she's just going for her shots. Even if she just miss[es] like five meters out, she doesn't care, so it's different. It's not my game style."

Pliskova made it to the quarterfinals with time to spare, beating Vandeweghe's compatriot Jennifer Brady 6-1, 6-0 in just 45 minutes.

"I think [Brady] was kind of nervous, and also, with the shadow [on the court], I think she just didn't feel well," she said. "That's nothing change on my game today, so I was feeling great."
