Ateneo pummels Adamson to open Season 80

Thirdy Ravena scored 20 points for Ateneo de Manila University, as the Blue Eagles trampled over a short-handed the Adamson Falcons 85-65 in the opening weekend of UAAP men’s basketball at Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday.

Despite committing 11 turnovers in the first half, the Eagles still managed to dominate the Soaring Falcons, who had to play without Papi Sarr.

It was Chiz Ikeh who carried the fight for Ateneo in the first half, where he tallied 14 of his 18 points. He also brought down 17 rebounds.

“I guess we were lucky Papi Sarr wasn’t in the game,” Ateneo coach Sandy Arespacochaga said. “We also weren’t surprised Ikeh has been playing a good game. We’re happy he was able to play the way he’s been practicing.”

The Eagles were up by 15 points in the third, when Adamson’s Kurt Lojera keyed a run that cut the deficit to 9 early in the fourth.
