Pocari edges Air Force in 5 sets to force decider

MANILA, Philippines – Pocari Sweat outlasted Hair Fairy-Philippine Air Force in a five-set thriller to force a sudden death showdown for a Finals berth in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference on Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Lady Warriors, reeling from a three-set loss at the hands of the Lady Jet Spikers on Saturday, recovered their form in the fifth set to finally take a 25-22, 16-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-12 victory.a

The hard-fought win allowed Pocari Sweat to tie their best-of-three series at one game apiece and force a rubber match on Wednesday.

Jeanette Panaga and Myla Pablo delivered in crunch time, combining to score the Lady Warriors' last six points of the game. It was Panaga who finished off the Lady Jet Spikers with a check ball off a quick attack.

The former De La Salle-College of St. Benilde ace earlier scored on back-to-back hits to shatter a 9-all tie, then added another off a poor reception from Air Force before Pablo scored on a drop shot and a kill block on Iari Yongco to make it 14-10 for Pocari Sweat.

But Air Force, which surprised the Lady Warriors 25-20, 25-19, 25-21 in last Saturday's opening match, refused to give up and pulled to within two points, 12-14, before Panaga's quick kill finally foiled them.
