Pirates train sights on No 5 against Blazers

MANILA, Philippines - Lyceum of the Philippines University guns for a fifth straight win against St. Benilde as action in the 93rd NCAA basketball tournament resumes at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan today following a couple of postponements due to Typhoon Gorio.

The Pirates have strung up four wins in row, including a 99-65 demolition of the Arellano U Chiefs last week to remain the lone unbeaten squad in the 10-team fold. They were to take on the Mapua Cardinals last Friday but the league decided to postpone the scheduled games due to inclement weather.

But the delay has only made the Pirates hungrier as they set out against the struggling Blazers (1-2) in their 12 noon showdown.

“Our goal is to win as many games as we can by playing harder and more aggressive every game,” said LPU coach Topex Robinson.

CJ Perez, team captain Mer Ayaay and twins Jaycee and Jayvee Marcelino have conspired to transform Lyceum from a whipping team into a legitimate title contender with early victories over the league’s fancied teams, including defending champion San Beda and last season’s losing finalist Arellano U.
