PH Grandmaster Frayna suffers second straight loss

Frayna weathered her passive opening strategy, outsmarting Czebe with two connected passed pawns in the center in the middlegame and almost moving to winning position if she had the proper furtherance.

However, the first Woman Grandmaster in the country blew her chances.

Two blunders on the 37th and 39th moves doomed Frayna, as she squandered the opportunity to turn things her way and to save a possible draw.

It was the second consecutive loss for the Filipina Grandmaster after suffering a loss to Russian GM Konstantin Landa in the previous round.

Those losses had her stuck at 4.5 points, and costing her a chance at contending for the title.
