Nationals duel Kazakhs for Asian volley quarters

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines hopes to keep the momentum of its straight-set romp over Hong Kong as it faces a higher-ranked Kazakhstan today, looking for an outright quarterfinals entry in the 2017 Asian Women’s Senior Volleyball Championship at the Alonte Gym in Binan, Laguna.

The Nationals disposed of the Hong Kong side, 25-21, 25-16, 25-17, last Wednesday night and could advance to the playoff with another victory against the Kazakhs in their 5 p.m. duel in Pool A.

The hosts could actually seal a spot in the quarters if Kazakhstan beats Hong Kong in their match being played at press time.

Alyssa Valdez is again expected to carry the scoring cudgels for Team Phl, which also boasts of 6-5 Jaja Santiago and Jovelyn Gonzaga.

Valdez fired a team-best 14 hits against Hong Kong despite limited touches as the team utilized all its players to gain confidence for the next tougher matches.
