Kobe counts on Pinoy fans in KL, as Gilas takes on home team

KUALA LUMPUR — Kobe Paras has no doubt that Filipino fans will come through for Gilas Pilipinas when it takes on the Malaysian national basketball team in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games at the MABA Stadium here.

At 2-0, the Philippines is safely through the knockout rounds, and another win over Malaysia will give Gilas a sweep of Group A.

In their first two games — against Thailand and Myanmar — the Filipinos enjoyed crowd support, as fans packed MABA for a glimpse of their idols. But Malaysians have come out in droves to support their athletes all throughout the SEA Games, and they will surely do the same on Wednesday night in a crucial game.

"They're the home team, and they're going to get a lot of people here," Paras said shortly after leading the Philippines to a 129-34 win over Myanmar on Tuesday night.

"But I know the Philippine fans are going to out-support them," he added confidently. "That's what I'm excited about."
