Jet Spikers shock Lady Warriors in semis opener

Philippine Air Force pulled off a shocker with a 25-20, 25-19, 25-21, demolition of the stunned Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors in Game 1 of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Open Conference best-of-three semifinals series at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Jet Spikers capitalized on the Lady Warriors' misreceptions and cold offense to inch closer to a Finals berth. Game 2 is on Sunday.

“Sumunod na lang ‘yun (mabilis natapos ang game) maganda kasi lahat sila nag-step up,” said Air Force coach Jasper Jimenez. “Siguro napadali sa amin ang laro. Naging advantage lang siguro kami kasi nawalan sila ng first ball.”

May Ann Pantino led Air Force with 12 points coming off 10 attacks and a pair of aces while Jocemer Tapic and Dell Palomata added 11 and nine markers, respectively.

The Jet Spikers had a field day on attacks as they pummeled the shaky Lady Warriors with 41 kills and seven aces while receiving 26 free points off Pocari Sweat's errors.
