Ginebra downs sputtering Phoenix for 5th straight win

Ginebra finally won a game against hardluck Phoenix with a 105-92 verdict in the PBA Governors' Cup at Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday.

The Gin Kings encountered difficulties against the Fuel Masters in the past 2 conferences, but that changed this time thanks to their balanced effort.

But it wasn’t easy for Ginebra, which needed to go all out in the third quarter after a slim 53-50 lead at the break.

“We were really frustrated at halftime . . . We're kinda sloppy. But we played well in the third quarter and focused defensively. Our group was able to get the lead and that's pretty much the story of the game,” Ginebra coach Tim Cone said.

In the third, Ginebra held Phoenix to just 18 points while scoring 32.

Import Brandon Brown and Matthew Wright tried to rally the Fuel Masters, but they only got as close as 13 points.
