Gilas moves to 2-0 with demolition of Myanmar

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – (UPDATED) In a complete contrast from their first game of the 2017 Southeast Asian Games, the Philippine men's basketball team cruised to an easy victory in their second game at the MABA Stadium here.

With Kobe Paras putting on a show, Gilas easily turned back Myanmar, 129-34, to improve to 2-0.

Kobe Paras of the Philippines dunks over a Burmese defender in the preliminaries of men's basketball tournament of the 29th Southeast Asian Games. The Philippines prevailed, 129-34.
It was an impressive display from the young Gilas squad, which struggled mightily in an 81-74 win over Thailand last Sunday night.

"We just wanted to respect the opponents, respect the game, work hard, do the right things, get good habits," said Coach Jong Uichico after their win. "(I told the players) don't fall into bad habits (just) because you can do anything you want in this game."

The Philippines outscored the overmatched Burmese, 31-7, in the opening frame, and never let up from there. The 19-year-old Paras, after playing for less than seven minutes against Thailand, was unleashed this time around.
