Azarenka withdraws from US Open

NEW YORK, NY, USA - Two-time runner-up Victoria Azarenka announced her withdrawal from the US Open on Monday due to an ongoing family matter.

“I am sadly unable to compete in this year's US Open due to my ongoing family situation that I am working through,” she said. “While I will dearly miss being in New York and playing in one of my favorite tournaments where I have enjoyed some of the best moments in my career, I am already looking forward to being back next year.”

Two-time runner-up Victoria Azarenka withdrew from the upcoming US Open on Monday citing an ongoing family matter.
The Belarusian reached the final in Flushing Meadows in 2012 and 2013, losing to Serena Williams in three sets on both occasions.

The former World No.1 previously issued a statement last week that cast doubt upon her participation, but her official withdrawal came on Monday.

Japan's Misa Eguchi, on a protected ranking after knee surgery, will take Azarenka's spot in the main draw.
