We learned a lot here – Reyes

Taipei – One takes what one can get.

Chot Reyes
Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes is satisfied with the progress of the national team even if it failed to defend the title and missed on earning a medal in the William Jones Cup here.

“Well, of course, although we wanted to have finished better, the objective really was to get this team together and prepare them for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, and also for other Asian competitions,” said Reyes after Gilas’ game against India last Saturday.

That win improved its record to 5-3, good for fourth spot behind leaders Canada and Lithuania – tied on top with 7-1 cards – and South Korea at third with a 6-2 slate.

Gilas lost to Canada (90-77), South Korea (83-72) and Lithuania (91-80) in this annual tournament where Mighty Sports, backed by seven reinforcements, won the title via an 8-0 sweep last year.

The most important thing for Reyes is the lessons the young players learned and the experience they gained against quality teams like Canada and Lithuania – two teams with tall veteran players.
