Tanduay, Batangas dispute solo third spot

MANILA, Philippines -  Tanduay and Batangas clash today for solo third while Racal Motors tries to bolster its quarterfinal drive against struggling Marinerong Pilipino in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

The Rhum Masters hope to ride the momentum of their record 141-65 blowout of Zark’s Burgers last Monday as they seek to firm up their bid for one of the top two berths and an outright spot in the semis against the Batangueños in the 3 p.m. match.

With both teams tied at third with 4-2 slates, a victory will boost not only the winner’s quarters bid but also their shot at an automatic spot in the semis.

“We’ve been preparing for this match against Batangas where a win will be crucial to our bid to stay on top,” said Tanduay coach Lawrence Chongson, who will be relying anew on the explosive troika of Jerwin Gaco, Lester Alvarez and James Martinez.

Batangas coach Eric Gonzales admits the odds are stacked against them.

“Honestly, we still lack experience compared with the Tanduay players,” said Gonzales, who will pin his hopes on the Joseph Sedurifa, Jessie Saitanan and Cedrick Ablaza in a bid to upend the Rhum Masters and improve their 4-2 slate.
