Star tops Alaska, extends Aces' season-long woes

Malcolm Hill scored 12 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter, including a jumper with 74 seconds left in the game that proved crucial in Star's 101-92 win over Alaska in the PBA Governor's Cup at Ynares Center in Antipolo city on Friday.

Trailing at the half, Star put the clamps on Alaska to start the third quarter, holding the Aces scoreless in a 5-minute stretch to go up 64-59.

In the fourth, whenever Star needed to score, it looked to Hill, who singlehandedly kept Alaska at bay with two 3-point plays midway in the quarter.

He hit the dagger with 1:14 seconds to go to give Star a comfortable lead 99-91 en route to a successful debut.

"He plays multiple positions. He plays 2, 3, 4 and even 5 sometimes. He's only 21 years old, but he knows how to win. He knows how to play basketball and he knows how to involve his teammates," Star head coach Chito Victolero said.

"Iyong pagiging bata niya sometimes nagiging weakness niya, pero habang tumatagal ang liga nafi-figure out niya kung paano siya makakatulong sa team."
