MANILA, Philippines -  With the PBA teams still undecided on whether or not to allow their key players for the FIBA Asia Cup, some Gilas cadet mainstays may end up playing  for Team Phl in the Beirut meet and the Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur.

“We’re not constrained from playing the same team in both tournaments, but of course we want flexibility,” Gilas team manager Butch Antonio told The STAR.

Antonio was reacting to reports that  if the PBA ball clubs decide not to lend their veteran stars to Gilas for the Asia Cup set Aug. 8-20.

The Gilas management, however, remains hopeful they can get the players in coach Chot Reyes’ wish list for the Beirut event – FIBA Asia’s flagship tourney which has bearing in the world ranking.

“Coach Chot is in touch with PBA commissioner Chito Narvasa,” said Antonio who has until Saturday to submit Team Phl’s initial 24-man roster for the Asia Cup.

Gilas has earlier named Baser Amer, Troy Rosario, Almond Vosotros, Kevin Ferrer, Kiefer Ravena, Ray Ray Parks, Mike Tolomia, Von Pessumal, Carl Bryan Cruz, Raymar Jose, Kobe Paras and Fil-German Christian Standhardinger for the SEAG war set Aug. 19-30.
