San Beda begins title-retention campaign vs San Sebastian

Defending champion San Beda begins on Saturday its pursuit of back-to-back championships when the Red Lions takes on the vastly improved San Sebastian Stags to open the 93rd NCAA basketball tournament at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Arellano University, last year's runner-up, is set to tackle an Allwell Oraeme-less Mapua also on the same day.

Robert Bolick of San Beda.
Robert Bolick remains the Red Lions' leader after a strong pre-season performance while Jayvee Mocon, Jomari Presbitero, Ben Adamos, AC Soberano, Davon Potts and Cameroonians Arnauh Noah and Donald Tankoua should provide solid support.

San Beda has also acquired Clint Doliguez and 6-foot-8 Kenmark Carino to further strengthen an already formidable roster.

The Red Lions topped the preseason Premier Cup last month, a feat that has made them this year's favorites to win the title.

Returning coach Boyet Fernandez, however, is wary of the pressure that comes with the tag.
