Red Lions, Chiefs try to rebound

EMILIO Aguinaldo College eyes a share of the lead while last year’s finalists San Beda and Arellano University seek to rebound from their previous defeats as the NCAA seniors basketball tournament resumes today at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

The Generals hope to make it two in a row as they battle the Letran Knights in the first of another heavy three-game bill at 12 noon.

The back-to-back title-seeking Red Lions face College of Saint Benilde at 2 p.m., while the Chiefs, runners-up in two of the last three seasons, take on Jose Rizal University at 4 p.m.
At the end of the first week of hostilities, a retooled Lyceum of the Philippines University holds the top spot by winning two straight games, which includes last Friday’s masterful 96-91 conquest of San Beda.
Behind the frontline duo of Hamadou Laminou and Sidney Onwubere, EAC showed that it can contend for a Final Four slot.
The Generals opened their campaign with a 74-64 win over the Blazers last Friday, as coach Ariel Sison stressed that they want to shed their also-ran image.
“We are positive this season na may maa-achieve ang team,” said Sison.
The Knights, on the other hand, began their second season under coach Jeff Napa on the wrong foot, putting doubts on their quest for redemption this early after losing the title last year.
Letran was in control against Mapua, only to drop a 75-78 decision on a late Andoy Estrella triple a week ago.
