Pocari grabs second straight win, drops Perlas to 0-2

MANILA -- Pocari Sweat scored its second straight win and reasserted its mastery over BanKo-Perlas, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 27-25, Wednesday in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Myla Pablo delivered her usual number and received plenty of help with Elaine Kasilag, Jeannette Panaga and Cai Napomuceno stepping up to preserve the Reinforced Conference champions Lady Warriors’ unbeaten record for a hold of the early lead.

Pablo uncorked 22 attacks in her 23-point outing while adding 11 excellent receptions for Pocari Sweat. Napomuceno finished with 14 points, Panaga scored 13 markers anchored on five kill blocks while kasilag had 11 for the Lady Warriors.

The Spikers gave Pocari Sweat quite a scare in the fourth set, tying the frame at 22 after trailing by four midway in the set before taking the set points, 24-23.

Pablo tied it at 24. Ella De Jesus gave Banko-Perlas the set point advantage but Pablo answered with a bomb of her own. Desiree Dadang put the Lady Warriors on top, 26-25, before De Jesus surrendered the match with an attack error.

"Medyo nara-rattle 'yung depensa namin. Nag-focus sila sa opensa nila, hindi nila ini-expect na puro drop ball, drop ball ang ginagawa ng kabila kaya nahirapan kami na mag-adjust," said Pocari Sweat Rico De Guzman. "Wala naman akong ibang sinasabi sa timeout kundi, 'ang opensa lang nila kung saan nakaharap ang spiker, drop ball. Kailangan lagyan ng tao so hindi sila nakaka-adjust. Ang ini-expect nila papaluin ang bola."
