Pocari eyes share of lead vs Perlas

MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Pocari Sweat seeks to stay on top as it squares off with Perlas-BanKo today while BaliPure and Creamline clash in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the Filoil Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Warriors struggled in the early going but regrouped and trounced UP Lady Maroons, 21-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-21, last Sunday to launch their drive for a fourth straight championship.

Pocari Sweat.
They hope to make it two-in-row as they take on the Lady BanKo spikers at 4 p.m. Perlas-BanKo dropped a four-setter to Hairy Fairy Air Force in Saturday’s opening of the mid-season conference of the league organized by Sports Vision.

“Our main goal is always the championship but we want to make it to the semifinals first before we think of anything,” said Pocari new coach Rico de Guzman, who steered Army to multiple championships before taking over the reins from Romel Abella this conference.

BaliPure and Creamline, on the other hand, dispute the lead at 6:30 p.m. with the Water Defenders, runners-up in the recent Reinforced Conference, hoping to have settled down following a scary five-set escape over the Power Smashers last Sunday.

The Cool Smashers also needed a strong finish to subdue the tough-fighting Akari-Adamson Lady Falcons, 25-17, 18-25, 25-15, 25-22, last Saturday and open their bid on a high note following a fifth-place effort in the Reinforced meet.
