Pirates battle Heavy Bombers

Lyceum’s strength will be tested today even as College of St. Benilde starts its own title quest under a new coach when the two teams collide with separate foes in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

Considered as preseason favorites, the Pirates square off with the Jose Rizal University (JRU) Bombers at 2 p.m. with hopes of joining opening-day winners San Beda Red Lions and Arellano Chiefs at the helm.

CJ Perez of Lyceum.
The Blazers, for their part, collide with the dangerous University of Perpetual Help Altas at 12 noon with aims of giving their new mentor, Ty Tang, a rousing welcome.

Also suiting up in today’s busy schedule were the undermanned Mapua Cardinals, who seeks to bounce back from their 91-82 loss to the Chief over the weekend when they tangle with the Letran Knights at 4 p.m.

But eyes are on Lyceum, tipped as the darkhorse this season after finishing third in the preseason tournament.

Lyceum coach Topex Robinson relies on their strong offense with point guard CJ Perez at the core of their attack along with veterans Jasper Ayaay and Wilson Baltazar.
