Petron takes Finals Game 1, sweeps F2 Logistics

Petron stunned defending champion F2 Logistics with a mighty straight sets, 25-23, 25-21, 25-19, victory to draw first blood in the best-of-three 2017 Philippine Superliga (PSL) All-Filipino Conference championship series Tuesday night at the Muntinlupa Sports Center.

The Blaze Spikers used their solid defense at the net and floor coverage while Ces Molina, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Bernadeth Pons and Mika Reyes provided the offensive spark to put Petron in a good position to reclaim the title it last held back in 2015 in a sweeping fashion.

Mika Reyes of Petron challenges the defense of F2 Logistics' Tin Tiamzon and Aby Marano.
Game 2 is on Thursday at the FilOil Flying Centre in San Juan.

National team member Molina finished with 11 points, nine coming off kills, to lead Petron. Pons and Maizo-Pontillas had eight markers apiece while Reyes had seven.

“It was our heart which carried us in this game,” said Petron coach Shaq Delos Santos. “We’re already in the championship match. It’s no longer a question of skills or talent; it’s now a question of willingness and desire. Whoever wants it more would definitely win.”

Delos Santos added that winning the crown is not a walk in the park as he expects a furious fight back from the Cargo Movers when Game 2 erupts.
