Perpetual opens post-Akhuetie era against CSB

MANILA, Philippines – University of Perpetual Help starts its bid for a Final 4 return when it clashes with De La Salle-College of St. Benilde (CSB) in its first game of the NCAA Season 93 men's basketball tournament on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Meanwhile, Lyceum of the Philippines University and Jose Rizal University (JRU) try to live up to the preseason hype as they collide, also on Tuesday.

Perpetual Help will be without Bright Akhuetie, who has since transferred to University of the Philippines (UP), but the rest of their roster remains intact.

Another Nigerian, Prince Eze, is now expected to carry the load for a team that was one win away from making a return to the Finals last year.

Also returning this season are Gab Dagangon, AJ Coronel, Keith Pido, Flash Sadiwa, Jack Hao, Daryl Singontiko, and JG Ylagan.

"We're moving forward and we're optimistic of our chances this year, even though we lost a key piece in our team," said Perpetual Help coach Nosa Omorogbe.

The Altas are up against a CSB team that lost Yankie Haruna for the rest of the season after injuring his shoulder just days before Saturday's opener at the Mall of Asia Arena.
