Perpetual Help forfeits game for wearing wrong uniforms

Hours after "beating" College of St. Benilde, 69-65, in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament on Tuesday, Perpetual Help ended up on the losing side after coming into their game wearing the wrong uniforms.

The Altas lost the game via forfeiture, after wearing their dark-maroon jerseys instead of the designated white uniform.

As a result of the confusion, the game was delayed for more than 40 minutes. Officials eventually let the match go on pending NCAA management’s ruling.

The league eventually issued its decision Tuesday evening, awarding the Blazers the win.

“Any athlete whose playing uniform does not conform with the rules, first offense is ineligible to participate in a given game,” said NCAA management committee chairman Fr. Glyn Ortega, of San Sebastian, in a statement.

“Hence, Perpetual Help forfeits its game in both the juniors and seniors division,” he added.
