Perlas-BanKo averts collapse, nabs first win at Adamson's expense

MANILA, Philippines – Perlas-BanKo leaned on former University of the Philippines standouts Kathy Bersoa and Nicole Tiamzon in the end game to turn back the Adamson University Lady Falcons in four sets for their first win in the 2017 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference.

The Perlas Spikers got off to a quick start, fell apart in the third, then rallied in the fourth to come away with a 25-18, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21 victory on Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

BanKo thus improved to 1-2 in the conference, while sending the upstart Lady Falcons to a 0-2 start.

"Siyempre malaking bagay siya, kasi seven games lang (ang elimination round), and we already lost two," said Bersola, who was named the Player of the Game. "Kumbaga, ideally 'yun na 'yung ceiling sa talo for us."

"So we really wanted to win this, and sana sa upcoming games, makuha ulit namin," she added.

Perlas-BanKo won the first two sets comfortably, pouncing on Adamson's bevy of attacking errors for easy points while former Lady Falcons Amanda Villanueva regularly punched spikes through their defense.
