‘Jumbotron’ bids farewell…for now

TnT KaTropa import Joshua Smith may have come short of leading his team to the 2017 PBA Commissioners Cup crown but will nevertheless be remembered as one of the most colorful and imposing reinforcements ever to set foot in the PBA hardwood.

Christened as “Jumbotron” because of his hulking presence in the middle, Smith bared how he will cherish his PBA experience and remember for the rest of his life.

“My first year in the PBA, I went to the championship,” said Smith.

“We had adversity the whole time I was here. The first series with Meralco and the second series against Ginebra – I really believe in moral victories like that but there were 12 imports right here and there will be two in the championship and I was one of them.”

Smith’s tenure was not a smooth one. He had to play through a foot injury which raised concerns about his ability to suit up in some games in the semifinals and finals. Aside from that, he made a big sacrifice when his girlfriend (Kristy) gave birth to their first born prior to Game 5 of the PBA Commissioners Cup Finals.

“It has been fun,” said Smith. “Some ups and downs but the goal at the start of the conference is to get to the championship and we got to the championship. Obviously, we didn’t win it but better luck next year.”
