Onwubere, Laminou drive EAC to dominant debut

“Ito ang pinaka-may chance na EAC,” Sidney Onwubere said before the beginning of the 93rd Season of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

In just their first game, Emilio Aguinaldo College proved their team captain’s claim correct.

Onwubere was all over the court, Hamadou Laminou showed no ill effects from his knee injury, and the Generals imposed their will on College of St. Benilde, 74-64, on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

The sense of urgency was there from the get-go for Ariel Sison’s wards as they blitzed to a 17-9 start. “We’re so thankful because everybody responded well,” the head coach said after their dominant debut.

EAC would only keep their foot on the pedal as their lead bloated to as big as 24, 61-37, after three quarters.

In the end, Onwubere stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

Laminou didn’t do bad himself in his first game back from his MCL tear in the preseason with a 21-point, 13-rebound double-double on top of seven blocks. “Right now, I’m not really totally 100 percent, but I’m trying my best,” he expressed post-game.
