Myanmar champ wants to inspire countrymen after winning ONE title

Just like what Eduard Folayang did for the Philippines, Aung La Nsang hopes to inspire his own nation after becoming Myanmar’s first MMA champion.

“The Burmese Python” crowned himself as the new ONE middleweight champion by toppling erstwhile unbeaten Russian Vitaly Bigdash in the main event of ONE: Light of a Nation in Yangon on Friday night.

The victory took place 5 months after Nsang lost to the same fighter in Jakarta.

“I wanted to give them, and to give this country, a world champion. I have lost before but I never give up,” Nsang said in a report posted on the South China Morning Post.

In the first round, Nsang staggered Bigdash with a blistering combination that had the Russian reeling against the cage. Bigdash, in a display of incredible toughness, survived the round.

It was a close contest the rest of the way but, in the end, all three judges scored in favor of Aung La who took home a hard-earned unanimous decision victory.
